Landon Thompson is currently a teacher at Cochrane High School in Cochrane, AB. Landon is a graduate from
the University of Alberta with his Bachelor of Education
Degree.
Landon grew up in Grande Prairie where he played hockey. He was drafted by the Brandon Wheat Kings in the 1996 Bantam Draft. He spent 2 years at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, SK. After graduating with honors he moved back home to attend Grande Prairie Regional College. At this time he retired from playing and began his coaching career. Landon spent the winters coaching hockey and the springs coaching volleyball. Landon coached for two seasons with the Grande Prairie Minor Hockey association and two seasons with the Grande Prairie Wolves Volleyball Association, where his bantam boys won a provincial bronze and silver medals. Landon Moved to Edmonton to finish his Education degree where he was named the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers Peewee Hockey team. This is a team that is selected to represent the NHL franchise in the Tournoi international de hockey pee-wee de Québec. He spent two seasons coaching with NAVC (Northern Alberta Volleyball Club) where his bantam boys won two consecutive bronze medals at Nationals. Landon has also worked at Jasper Volleyball Camp, and Sylvan Lake Volleyball camp as an instructor. Over the summer of 2006 Landon was the head coach for the Zone 2 Indoor girls volleyball representative at the Alberta Summer Games. Landon is currently the co-founder and director for Canmore Volleyball Camp. This is an outdoor summer volleyball camp for boys and girls ages 12-18 set in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Landon is a fully certified Level 2 hockey coach, Level 1 basketball coach, as well as a Level 2 Volleyball coach. In the summer of 2008 Landon represented his province as the Assistant Coach of Team Alberta Blue, U-16 Girls. Team Alberta Blue won the bronze medal at the Western Canadian Elite Tournament in Winnipeg, MB. Landon's Midget U15 team's represented Jaguars Volleyball Club at the Volleyball Festival in Reno, NV (2007) and Phoenix, AZ (2009). |
